When asked how she feels about going against the senior class in Powder Puff Football, freshman Gillian Newell said, “I really am not too stressed about it; our freshman grade has always been pretty athletic and good at everything they do, so I’m not super worried…I think we really have this down.” While this confidence is admirable, the opposition might think otherwise. Senior coach Adian Williams is in full support that this is the seniors’ year to take home a dub. He explained, “I just expect us to go out there and…fight until the end to win it all.” He elaborated by explaining what the senior coaches are planning to do differently this year to get the outcome they want: “This year we are going to actually practice, [since] last year we didn’t practice at all.” He made this clear to his players by saying, “If [the athletes] don’t show up to practice this year, [then] they’re not going to start…we just want people there who are going to want to compete…we are going to condition [the girls] this year because [last year] they were very gassed and tired by the second half.” He ended it off by saying, “We plan on just changing the mindset to having a winning mentality.”
Having a winning mentality is only one part in helping players find success on the gridiron. The rest requires a bit of football knowledge, a competitive spirit, and a personality built on having fun. Powder Puff Football is a very competitive game where the Seniors take on the Freshman, and the Juniors take on the Sophomores to compete to play in the final round of the two winners. The first two games are played simultaneously on each half of the field while the game between the final two grade-level champs takes over the entire field. This has become an ongoing tradition over the years to get our tribe hyped up for the kickoff to homecoming week!
This incoming Powder Puff Football game takes place on Wednesday, October 9th. It will be a fun and exciting couple of games to watch! The games will be located down at the High School football field at 7:00 pm.
