If you go look for Dalan’s Instagram, the profile picture you’ll find is not one from his illustrious baseball career or from one of the many plays that he was in during his time in high school. Ironically enough, however, I think the photo is one that better represents just who Dalan is. At first glance, the cartoon chicken he uses to represent himself makes no sense, but the thing is, that’s not just any chicken. It is Chicken Joe from the animated movie Surfs Up, a character who bases his entire life on living without regrets. This is the way that Dalan aspires to live his life, simply wishing to soak up every moment of the present as it comes. You can see it in every aspect of his life, from the way that he goes out and plays every game like it’s his last, to the pages of his writing. When asked if there was anything he had come to regret, though, he only had one: not getting into theatre earlier on in high school.

Deacon is currently a senior at School of the Osage High School. Even though this is his first semester with the journalism team, Deacon has always been in love with writing. He remembers as a child that he used to design and write stories for comic books that he created. For the longest time, Deacon felt he wanted to be a journalist, and "after a few years of soul searching, [he] realized the dream was still alive and well" and joined the journalism team as a staff reporter and editor.
Deacon has been accepted into the journalism program at the University of Missouri-Columbia and cannot wait to continue delivering the best quality journalism as he develops his skills.
