The Ailuropda melanoleuca is commonly known as the giant panda or panda bear. The panda bear is a species endemic to China. Its bold black-and-white coat can characterize it. It is distinguished from the red panda by people calling it a “giant panda.” The giant panda belongs to the order Carnivora, but it is a folivore whose diet primarily consists of bamboo shoots and leaves. Sometimes, they will eat meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion. Meanwhile, the pandas in captivity eat honey, eggs, fish, yams, leaves, oranges, or bananas with other specially prepared food.
The giant panda lives in mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan. Due to deforestation and other developments, the panda has been forced to leave the lowland areas where it once lived. We don’t know how many pandas are out there. People think there might be around 2000-3000, but the population is rising in 2016. They were moved from endangered to vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
